Quote of the Day

Marlo was playing her guitar.
Mommy- What's the name of your band?
Marlo- The Show.
Mommy- Marlo and The Show?
Marlo- Marlo and The Big Show!

-------------------

Over a month ago we  went to my cousin Josh's wedding.  During the festivities Josh serenaded his lovely wife Julie with a live performance. Ever since then Marlo has been obsessively watching videos of Josh's performance of Elton John's "Your Song" and "La bamba".  She often says "I like Josh" or "I miss Josh"- he really made an impression on her.  Recently, she picked up her guitar (which we had to get a new strap for so that it was a real strap like Josh's guitar strap) and said "I'm working on a song for Josh."  She also makes Sean and I reenact the serenade.  Someone has to play guitar and someone has to slow dance with her or a stuffed animal (Josh and Julie danced after the serenade). She didn't miss a single detail- she even lines our dining room chairs up in a row just like they had the chairs on the stage at the party.  I am really trying to get her rendition of "Your Song" on video.  She calls it "The Oh My Song" but already has the first phrase of lyrics down. It's pretty cute.

Murphy's Law Weekend

While many of you celebrated Memorial Day weekend, the Guess family celebrated Murphy's Law weekend.

Murphy's Law reads:
1. If the cousins that your 2 year old has been begging to see decide to stop by for a visit the 2 year old will be attacked by a nasty stomach virus and proceed to vomit all over her mom.  Thus cutting the visit very short. She will then continue to vomit, or "spit up" as she calls it, at least more times.

2. If the 5 month old finally decides to start sleeping through the night, Mommy will get hit with the previous mentioned stomach virus and be up ALL night "spitting up."  No sleep for Mommy. Ever.

3. If your car is in the shop, and has been for 2 weeks, the technician who is assigned to work on it will have a loss in his family and delay your repairs even further.  I know it's minor compared to a loss in the family, but we just want our car back and have been going around circles about it for too long.

4. If Daddy is excited to do a little cooking (which he hasn't had time to do lately) and finds a special recipe to use, you will not have the ingredients. Despite 3 trips to the grocery store in 3 days.

This was the basic trend of the weekend, although I have to admit that we also had some fun too.  Saturday we played at the park (before the virus hit Marlo). Sunday we met the Galindo family at Cherrywood coffee house for a Groundworks Music Orchestra show that was great. It's the last one of the season.  In the afternoon we met up with the Tierney family and Marlo got to run around with Knox.  Knox has moved up to the next classroom at school and both Marlo and Knox are taking it pretty hard. They miss each other so much.  They ran around, rode in the wagon, played in the splash pad, blew bubbles, ate Popsicles, played soccer and had a blast. I've never seen Marlo play so well with another little kid.  Knox's parents said the same thing.  We'll be seeing them more!

I did manage to get a craft project in. I made the kids new sunhats.

Weekend Fun

We had a fun weekend!  Marlo and I had a girls morning out on Saturday.  We visited the museum, had an ice cream sandwich at Royal Blue Grocery, and watch welders work on a construction project downtown.
On Sunday we went back downtown to check out Viva Street Festival (http://www.vivastreetsaustin.org/). Marlo did kids yoga under a big oak tree. We enjoyed the happenings but definitely decided it will be more fun next year when we can ride bikes. The festival covered a 2 miles stretch of 6th street and by the end of it we were pretty exhausted from walking in the sun. I managed to get sunscreen on the kids but not myself :(
Marlo on the Red Swing Project swing that's currently at the Museum.
Check out their website- Its a very cool project.

Tiny Tails Petting Zoo was the main attraction at the Museum.
Bunnies, Bunnies, Bunnies. She also held a baby chicken and...
A big lizard. I was proud of her, I certainly didn't want to touch it.
This is her snake pose- it's a nice snake.

Sunny Day

The Thinker
It's already happening, Louis is pestering Marlo and pulling her hair.

This is such a cute picture, although the run down the hill did not end well. By the time she was at the bottom her legs couldn't keep up with the momentum of her body.  Luckily I was at the bottom to break the fall on to the concrete sidewalk. She immediately asked to do it again, with the same ending... I called it a day after that.

Top

Marlo's favorite thing to do at Butler park is run to the top of the hills. We need to get this girl to the mountains!

Dance Marlo Dance

While most kids at the splash pad are playing in the water Marlo is off to the side dancing with her shadow.

This one is great. She's come up with all these moves on her own but I swear I have done several of them in modern dance classes.  This video would be longer but the last part of the dance had too much naked booty for the internet.

I totally want to get all my dance friends together and do this...

I need to get myself back into the dance. I did choreography with my niece when she was very young. I think the first piece she  performed was at Sweet Pea Festival when she was no more than 3 or 4 years old. We did a really fun duet.

Quote of the Day

At Old Navy.
Mommy- This is a nice shirt.
Marlo- No. That is baby Louis' swaddle.

I have to admit that she has a point. The fabric is almost exactly the same.
I have always though those swaddle blankets seemed comfortable.

(we have this swaddle in plain white too)

Road Trip

We went on a little road trip this past weekend.  My cousin got married on Friday and had a little party to celebrate so we loaded up and made the trek to Houston.  The weekend was great fun.  The car ride there was a little rough, but we only had to stop 3 times, which I think is pretty good for a family with a 2 year old and an infant.

Between time hanging with the family we visited with our great friends Patrick and Erika who have Sophia (3.5 years) and Maya (5 months). I can't believe we didn't get any pictures of the kids together. We had intention of lining them up and taking a picture but we never got that far.

Marlo was in heaven. Sophia has soooo many cool toys and a REAL piano.

Here's Marlo really enjoying the toys.  She did the entire trip sans naps so, although I think her eyes are just closed in this shot, this is pretty much how she looked by the end of the day Saturday.
Louis enjoying a nap at the hotel.

Josh serenading Julie. Marlo kept telling me "I like Josh" when he got out his guitar it really sealed the deal for her.

Congratulations to Josh and Julie!

Moving

I put him down next to the little train and 2 minutes later when I looked up from checking email he was half way across the room. Go baby go!

Quote of the Day

Marlo- Baby Louis is exercising.
Mommy- He's exercising?
Marlo- Well he supposed to be.
---------------
Marlo- You can't go under it. You can't go over it. You have to swim right to it.
(I have no idea what she's referring to, we were eating dinner and these are the words of wisdom she had to share)
---------------
Sean shaved his beard a few days ago and it's been a topic of discussion.
Marlo- Your beard Daddy.
Daddy- Yeah,  it's growing back.
Marlo- It's growing back and forth, back and forth.
--------------
Driving on I35 towards downtown.
Marlo- I see downtown.
Go around a small curve for a very slightly different view of downtown.
Marlo- I see another downtown!

Rolling

Louis has been rolling from his tummy to his back for a few weeks but just a few days ago he figured out how to go from his back to his tummy.  He can also pivot around on his tummy.  Often times when he's on his tummy he'll get up on his knees and push as if he's trying to crawl.  I can't believe he's already somewhat mobile!
