Quote of the day

After Marlo washed up from having her snack...
Grandpa- Are you squeaky clean?
Marlo- I'm squeakin' clean.

Quote of the Day

"I'm too smart"

I think her teacher uses this in the context of "You are too smart to hit your friends, you are smart and you can use your words" or "Don't throw your snack on the floor, you are too smart to make a decision like that" but Marlo just walks around declaring that she's too smart. Oh my.

Cake

We had a fun weekend celebrating Sean's birthday.  We had Chicken and waffles, went to a tea shop for a tea party, played outside, danced to some music at the Honk! Festival, and ate cake.

As Marlo was finishing a slice of cake I was talking to her about birthdays. It had been her birthday, then daddy's and the next birthday we'd celebrate would be her cousin Jagger's birthday.  Here's how the conversation continued as she ate her last bite of cake...
Marlo- I want more cake.
Mommy- That's all the cake Marlo.
Marlo- I want more daddy birthday cake.
Mommy- Daddy's cake is all gone.
Marlo- I want Jagger birthday cake.

The cake comment reminds me of another funny quote i forgot to share last week.  Our neighbor brought Marlo a St. Patty's day cupcake and here's what she had to say:

Marlo- I love cupcakes. Mommy, now I only eat cupcakes.
(How did she learn to use "only"?)

Quote of the Day

Last week Marlo and I had this interaction:

(I can't believe she's already telling me lies!)

This weeks chapter of the ongoing Playdoh struggle went like this:
Mommy- Marlo don't eat the Playdoh.
Marlo- (touches her tongue to the Playdoh). I lick it.
Mommy- No Marlo. We don't put the Playdoh in our mouth or on our tongue. If we can't follow the rules we are going to have to put the Playdoh away.
Marlo- Mommy go in the kitchen.
Mommy- Why do you want me to go in the kitchen? (where I won't be able to see her)
Marlo- Mommy go in the kitchen.
Mommy- If I go in the kitchen are you going to eat the Playdoh?
Marlo- Yes.
(oops... a little too honest for her own good)

SXSW- Days 3,4,5

Friday I took Marlo and Louis to Cherrywood Coffeehouse for the Girls Rock showcase. It was phenomenal.
Here's Marlo dancing on a "stage". She made a few new friends and I had to haul her away screaming because she didn't want to leave.

We continued our adventures through the weekend and were very excited to have Daddy join us. By the end of Friday my back had seized up from carrying both kids and we needed the extra help.

Saturday we went down to Auditorium Shores and saw Groundworks Music Orchestra which is one of our favorites. It's lead by Mr. Neal, who plays at Marlo's school.  The venue was a little dusty and it was windy so I can't say that it was the best experience of the week but it was still fun.

Sunday we made it out to the Pealander Z Family Music Jamboree at Springdale Farms.  This was by far the best show of the week. The music was great (even though we didn't stay long enough to see the headliners) and the venue was ideal. It was so nice to sit in the grass and relax.

All in all we had a great week. On the car ride home today Marlo even said "What a wonderful day." Cute!

Here's some more dancing from Sunday:

Here's a cute pic of Louis on Saturday
And when you're done, YOU'RE DONE!
This is the beginning of the meltdown that prompted our departure on Sunday.
I think more than anything she was tired of us asking her if she needed to go potty... but I
can't be sure.  She was pretty tired and maybe a little overwhelmed.

Sxsw day 2

We walked up and down South Congress this afternoon and enjoyed lots of music and people watching.

I think Louis is flipping us off in this picture.

SXSW

I loaded up the kids and went to a SXSW day show this afternoon.
We saw several bands from the School of Rock and Schulz Garden.  Lots of fun!

Quote of the Day: On the way home, a long drive with all the sxsw traffic, I was telling Marlo that it was taking a long time because of all the people, cars, bikes, pedicabs, buses, etc.  I told her that lots of people come to Austin to see shows like we just saw a show.
Marlo- I want to see Elmo.
Mommy- Do you think Elmo is here for SXSW.
Marlo- No. Elmo stay in the TV. I want to go home and see Elmo in the TV.

Quote of the Day

Marlo has a bowl with 2 fig newtons in it.
Marlo- This one is mine and this one is yours.
Mommy- Thank you Marlo. Can I have my cookie? (thinking we have made some break through in the "mine" phase and she is actually going to share)
Marlo- No. It's yours. I eat it.
--------

Marlo- I want to see the light.
Sean- Have you been listening to 80's music?
Marlo- Yeah.
---------

Marlo- Daddy going to work. Daddy going play computer.
----------

This one's not from Marlo but...
I had a totally spacey ditsy day yesterday and at one point I actually called Louis by the wrong name... I called him "Elmo". Not good!

2 year and 2 month Doctor visits

Last week we took Marlo in for her 2 year well child visit and Louis in for his 2 month well baby visit.
Marlo weighed 25lb 8oz and was 33 1/4 inches tall (40th percentile).  Louis is 11lbs 10oz and 23 1/2 inches long (50th percentile).

The visit went well. Everyone is healthy with the exception of perpetual colds and runny noses. Marlo was excited to get to wear a hospital gown.

I think the best part of the story is that before the appointment I took Marlo to play at the park and told her we had to leave by 3:00 because we had to go the see the doctor. Her response was "Dr. Seuss?" Sorry honey, Dr. Ward.

Rainy Day Activity

Marlo baked her first cake!
It's was high on the fun scale but low on the flavor scale due to the fact that we didn't have the proper ingredients- like sugar.

Marlo and Elowyn's House

We went to the kite festival last Sunday and met up with Elowyn and family. The highlight of the event was this very cool accident.  We brought an old comforter cover to sit on but when Sean went to lay it out the wind caught it and filled it with air.  The girls were immediately attracted to it and crawled inside.  They called it their "house"  What fun!

More Marlo Pics

Doing the yoga video she got for her birthday.

Marlo had a sick day last week... poor thing.

Playdoh for a rainy day.  What a great way for toddlers to practice using scissors and stamps.

Swinging at the park on a sunny day!

Quote of the Day

I'm going to start a new series of blog posts called "Quote of the Day". Marlo's to the age were really funny cute things come out of her mouth and I want to document and share them.  For this first post I have a few saved up.

Daddy- Marlo you have to put your socks on.
Marlo- I don't want to. I want my shoes.
Daddy- You have to wear socks with your shoes because if you don't you'll get blisters. Blisters hurt and you don't want them on your feet.
Marlo- I wear socks. I don't want lizards. I don't want lizards on my feet.

Daddy is leaving for work at about 8am and says- Bye Marlo. I have to go to work so I can bring home the bacon.
Later that afternoon...
Marlo- Daddy workin'. Daddy makin' bacon.

Mommy- Marlo we have to leave the park because we have to go see the Doctor.
Marlo- Dr. Seuss?

Pawpaw and the cousins

We celebrated great grandpa Pawpaw's Birthday yesterday. Here he is with Marlo, Cohen, Jagger, Louis and Lorelai!

Helicopter suit

Another comparison- here's a pic of both kids in the same outfit. L is 2 months old and I think M is 3-4 months.

2 month photos

Here's a pic of Marlo at 2 months and one of Louis. Its fun to compare. I don't think they look alike here but there are times when I see similarities.

old pics

I found some older pictures that I don't think I ever shared.
The crafting pics are probably from last August.
The music festival ones are from Utopia Fest in October.

Rock and Roll

Aunt Wawa taught Marlo to sing "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay"

This one is a medley.  Starts with "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay" and includes "EIEIO" among others. I love the rock star moment at 0:06-8

(excuse the clanking of dishes, that's Sean, and the grunting, that's Louis)
