Buzz Cuts & Goofballs

I couldn't look at the terrible haircut Louis got from "the professional" for one more day so I took the clippers to his head.  Kind of cute, kind of 50's bully.

I was hoping it would look like River Pheonix from Stand By Me but it might be more like the kid on the far right. Oh well.

He's still got his goofy charm.

MLK March

We joined Marlo's school for the MLK march.

We had a great time. We ran into so many people we know (Austin is a small town sometimes). It was a bit of an adventure.  I went into it really ill prepared and while marching to show our support was a great idea I didn't really think about the distance we'd cover and that we'd eventually have to walk back to the car. The kids were troopers!

This is the kids, giving up just 1.5 blocks from the parking garage where the car was parked. We had some dried mango and pushed through but I was worried I'd have to carry 80 pounds worth of kids that last block.

Parties and Monster Trucks

I think it's birthday season. Over the last few weekends we've had a minimum of 2 parties per weekend.

Louis and his friend Langston at Kaiden's party.
Our neighbor and good buddy Kenley turned 4 last week. He had a gathering at this house that included a pinata (that louis killed) and expanded over to the park. Super fun.

The second part of Kenley's birthday included a trip to San Antonio to Monster Jam.

That face is probably a response to the fact that we are the only family in the entire Alamo Dome that brought healthy snacks to a Monster truck rally. Don't worry it ended with hot dogs, nachos, and popcorn.

Indoor fireworks! What?!

Just Dance

Louis loves to watch YouTube videos of Just Dance. Here are a few moves he's been working on.

Roller Skating

Marlo wants to have a roller skating birthday party so we decided we should probably try roller skating.  It was super fun. Marlo is totally into it (book the party!) and Louis had fun but lost interest quickly. Not sure if he lacked interest in skating, was distracted by the video games, or if 1 hour of soccer plus a bouncy house birthday party plus roller skating was just too much for one day.

More Fall Fun

We got to see a race at COTA (for Knox's 6th birthday party)

Pizza tailgating with Kenley at Homslice

Creek Show is a series of art installations on the new Waller Creek development. Sean and I went as grown ups and then decided Marlo and Louis couldn't miss it.

The kids enjoyed the art show and loved the hands on activities (this one is LittleBits, a circuit building activity, hosted by the Thinkery)

Christmas continued...

They opened their gifts to each other a little early. Actually the day they bought them. They were wrapped for less than 10 minutes when Marlo convinced me that her gift was to Louis, from her, and his gift was from him to her... so it was between her and Louis and didn't really have anything to do with me so they should decide if they opened them or not.
Ok.

Feliz Navidad!
We spent 4 days at a cabin near Utopia, TX over Christmas. With the exception of 3-4 cases of strep throat it was delightful. Tons of cousin time, playing, eating and adventure.

Cool dad's play with Calico Critters

We did a couple hikes. This one in Garner State Park was really fun. Very steep but worth it when we got to the top of the "mountain"
Another holiday memory for the record-
I had all the christmas gifts ready to load in the car to take to the cabin and they were sitting at the bottom of the stairs near the garage door. I left Louis unsupervised for 2 minutes while I ran up to get some socks when I heard the sound of tearing paper. I ran down the two flight of stairs to find that he had opened 1 gift and had the bow off of another. When we was throwing a fit because I wouldn't let him play with the super cool Playmobil pirate ship I got him he said "The problem is not that I opened the present, the problem is that YOU interrupted me!"
